Killhope -The North of England Lead Mining Museum,
Weardale, County Durham
|
The entrance to Park Level Park Level Mine at Killhope operated between 1853 and 1910, reopening briefly during the First World War. Park Level Mill with its large waterwheel was built at Killhope in the late 1870s to crush ore and seperate it from waste material. Restoration of Killhope started in 1980, and today visitors can see the most complete lead mining dressing floor in Britain as well as get a glimpse of what it was like to work underground by exploring Park Level Mine. |
