Bolton Gill Engine Shaft

This shaft was sunk to drain workings below Bottle Level which was driven up from the bottom Bolton Gill. The shaft housed pumps powered by a water wheel which due to the steepness of the valley had to be located a short distance away in Hebden Gill.

Stone Piers which supported the pump rods, the water wheel was around the corner to the left.

Stone covered water leat which supplied water to the waterwheel which powered the pump rods.
