Beevors Engine Shaft
Work on this shaft began in August 1836. The shaft worked below the adit level so pumps were installed. These were powered by a water wheel and the remains of the wheelhouse can be seen near by. This wheel house was rebuilt and refurbished in 1865. In the side of the shaft is a short tunnel where the pump rods entered the shaft. The angle bob which transferred the horizontal motion of the rods from the water wheel into vertical motion in the shaft still survives.

This is how an angle bob works.
